Choosing a Wedding Theme
By J. A. Young
Weddings are often viewed as traditional affairs comprised
of ceremony and reception dinner. However, some couples opt for a special
celebratory theme and frequently, couples on their second or a subsequent
marriage choose something less formal and traditional to mark their marriages.
The following text offers some ideas in wedding themes destined to make your
event a memorable one.
Allowing the seasons to dictate your wedding theme is a
great way to add cohesion to wedding décor. For example, a December wedding
can take advantage of the vast array of holiday decoration available.
Poinsettia, mistletoe, pinecones can easily be found and placed around the
church or reception hall. Decorate each place setting with a sprig of holly
and give each guest a glass ornament as a favor.
A Halloween wedding can be loads of fun for your guests.
Turn your reception into a masquerade ball. Allow guests to bob for apples.
Replace sprinkled rice with candy corn and bedeck the hall with orange and
black crepe paper.
Likewise a Valentine wedding is perfect to showcase the
couple’s love. Strew rose petals at each table, serve rose petal punch,
decorate with hearts galore and rent a cupid statue to greet your guests.
Dress the bridesmaids in red velvet and send your guests home with vintage
valentines and candy hearts.
A medieval wedding will be an event to remember. Serve
traditional roasted meats and be sure your servers and attendants are dressed
accordingly. Drink from heavy goblets and employ a harpist and other musicians
and entertainers skilled in medieval music and dance.
Other themes to consider: nautical, fantasy, New Years,
Island, Beach, Oriental, roaring twenties, 50s sock hop, or swinging sixties
soiree. A theme, if appropriate to the couple in question, is a terrific way
to add some fun to a special event.
