Real Flowers or Silk Flowers for Weddings
By Susan M. Keenan ©2007
Trying to plan a wedding is a hectic process from start to
finish. So many things need to be planned and selected that it is a wonder
that it all gets done. Not the least of these decisions, selecting your
wedding flowers is an important part of the preplanning stages.
In fact, probably the first thing you need to consider is
whether you want silk or real flowers for your wedding. Traditionally, real
flowers are the way to go. However, times have changed and the traditional
ways are no longer the only ways to plan for a wedding. Therefore, if you
aren’t sure what it is that you would like to get for your wedding flowers,
maybe you should take a look at the pros and cons.
Several advantages do exist for the traditional pick of real
flowers. Aside from the sentimental and traditional value attached to them,
real flowers offer that freshly scented, delicate aroma that only real flowers
have to offer our olfactory senses. Additionally, despite the realistic
appearance of many silk flowers, there simply is no mistaking the soft touch of
the delicate petals of real flowers.
Moreover, today’s florists are amazingly equipped to prepare
an amazingly eclectic assortment of arrangements varying in colors, styles, and
specific types of flowers. Typically, florists are ready, willing, and able to
provide your heart’s desire when it comes to your wedding flowers, partly due
to the fact that such a varied selection of flowers is available.
Modern techniques have made it possible to change colors
completely, tweak colors to a unique appearance, and to modify flowers to our
heart’s content. Matching colors to the bridesmaid’s dresses has never been
easier.
Additionally, real flowers photograph beautifully.
Although, they will never look quite as they did on your wedding day, real
flowers can be preserved through several techniques and added to your
collection of visible memories or mementoes.
On the other side of things, silk flowers do have some
merits of their own. Silk flowers will never wilt and they will provide the
same fresh look at the end of your wedding as at the beginning.
Plus, if they are properly cared for before and after the
wedding, silk flowers will not fade or change drastically in color. Along with
this concept comes the fact that silk flowers require very little care. They
do not need to be watered or refrigerated. Additionally, a few moments in the
sun isn’t going to create any irreversible damage.
Silk flowers are easily stored, easily transported, and
easily displayed. Moreover, they are usually available and don’t fall prey to
seasonal availability. Therefore, they can be preordered and even picked up
early if you aren’t having them delivered to the location of your wedding.
In addition to being easy to care for, silk flowers are
lightweight and less expensive than many varieties of real flowers. No one
needs to be concerned with allergic reactions or bugs. Silk flowers are
timeless and therefore, they don’t require the special preservation that real
flowers necessitate.
When selecting your choice of real versus silk flowers,
consider all of the pros and cons that exist. Both options provide beautiful
floral arrangements for your wedding.
