Theme Weddings the Groom Will Love

By Wenona Napolitano

Many couples are opting for theme weddings to creatively display their love for each other. In today’s busy world many of us feel lost in the crowd. We want to feel special on our wedding day and we want that wedding to be as unique and special as we are. By picking a wedding theme that reflects the personalities of the two getting married you will have a wonderfully unique wedding like no one else’s.

In the past most grooms were left out of the wedding planning, but today’s grooms want to actively take part in the wedding planning and they want a wedding theme that they will enjoy as well. They don’t want to be stuck in pink and fluffy stuff; they want a little testosterone in their wedding. There are ways to incorporate the male and female, the yin and yang into your wedding theme.

How do you pick a theme? Think of the things the two of you really enjoy or what you do. Make sure the theme is something the two of you both share. You want to make sure it reflects both of you. I suggest you and your fiancé sit down and make separate lists of the things the two of you really like or enjoy that could be used as the theme for a wedding. Share your lists and cross off anything you don’t agree on. Hopefully there are some things left that the two of you do agree on. Go from there for picking out a theme. Brainstorm and come with ideas on how you could use and incorporate that theme into your wedding, think about decorations, colors, clothing, etc.

There are many themes out there to choose from. Some themes a man would enjoy are: Firefighter Theme Wedding, Monster Truck Theme Wedding, or a Motorcycle Theme Wedding. Here are a few themes that grooms are sure to love along with coordinating ideas to get you started.

Monster Truck Wedding: This is more of a testosterone driven theme wedding (my husband would have been in heaven had we chosen this) but more and more women are getting involved with Monster Trucks.

Could you imagine showing up to your wedding in a huge monster truck? If so this may be a great theme for you. Little monster trucks are easily found in the toy section of any store and could be used as wedding decorations or favors. Suckers shaped like big tires could also be great favors. The wedding cake could be layers of tires with a big monster truck on top.

This is a wedding that could be held just about anywhere; outside, in a park, in a rental hall. Just make sure you have a big truck or two for great photo opportunities.

Motorcycle Wedding: For all of you Harley lovers or chopper riders this is a great theme wedding that is gaining in popularity. Show up to your wedding on a shiny chrome bike or ride off into the sunset afterward on a Harley.

Any motorcycle store should be filled with ideas for your theme wedding. Shiny chrome parts could double as decorations and centerpieces, tiny little motorcycles could be used as favors.

The bride and groom’s chairs could be built to look like motorcycle seats (for really great ideas find the episode of Monster House where they did a motorcycle lover’s house). Your cake topper could have a bride and groom riding motorcycles and your wedding dress could be white leather and lace (or you could save the leather and lace for the wedding night).

Firefighter Theme Wedding: If you or your fiancé is a firefighter or if you just like fire trucks, a firefighter theme wedding can be a lot of fun. A firefighter theme incorporating modern firefighter items or a vintage firefighter theme wedding using antique firefighter items are two great ways to do a firefighter theme wedding.

For a regular firefighter theme wedding you would probably want to use a combination of the colors red, yellow, black and white. For a vintage firefighter theme the color scheme could be a deeper, antique red, black, ivory, and beige or a deep country blue.

Ideally the best location for a firefighter theme wedding would be a fire station or fire hall. Some fire halls allow rentals for special occasions especially if they have a large room used for meetings or dinners. Even if you can not rent out a fire station for your wedding, creative planning and decorating of any area can be made to fit your firefighter theme.

It would be great to have a fire truck drive you to your wedding location or from your wedding to your reception. If the fire department has rules against personal use of the vehicles you may want to check your area for specialty rental services. Some places have unique vehicles for rental other than your basic limos. Other options include renting a nice red truck or car; maybe you could even find a red limo.

Most fire fighter items have a masculine aura, soften them and add a feminine touch by pairing fire items up with ivy, flowers, strands of lights or ribbon or lace. A ladder can be entwined with garlands of ivy and red and white roses. You could even add a strand of white lights to it. The ladder could be used as a back drop behind the bridal table or it could be laid sideways in front of the table. A hydrant could be placed on the gift table with a ring of flowers around the bottom. A hose or rope could be laced through an arch or trellis with strands of lights. Be creative with firefighter items that are available to you and you could save a fortune. Envision every day fire fighting items trimmed in ribbon or with flowers. You could have centerpieces, displays, or an altar to go along with your wedding theme.

By using the colors red, white, black, and yellow can convey your theme as well. Have the women in the bridal party wear red or yellow dresses. Bouquets and floral arrangements can have red, yellow and white roses. A glass bowl with red floating candles on top of a mirror tile can make a very elegant and inexpensive centerpiece. White tablecloths with red napkins and table accessories are simple and elegant. The men could all wear black tuxes with accessories that match the bridesmaids’ attire. Add small fire fighter charms to your flower girl basket, garter and ring bearer pillow. Small and simple details can convey your theme elegantly.

If none of these themes gets the groom’s motor running other options you have are Barn Yard (Hoe Down, Cowboy, etc) Theme Weddings, Police, Outdoor (hiking, skiing, etc.), Fishing (or other water themes- boating, beach themes), or just have a regular wedding with more masculine elements like darker colors and sleek modern lines skip the real flouncy, girly stuff like lace and tulle. Just make sure both of you end up being satisfied with the theme you choose.
