Survival Tips: Making it Through the Big Day

Weddings
are not only stressful for the bride and groom. All too often, if you're
participating in the wedding in any way, you'll be ready to tear your hair out
by the time the big day comes around. Here are some tips for participating in
a wedding while still preserving your sanity.
1) Be
flexible. This is especially important if you have a "Yo-yo
bride"—one who keeps changing her mind about wedding details. (This is
especially annoying for the maid of honor, who is traditionally responsible for
making sure those details get taken care of.) Be willing to shift as the
bride's tastes shift, and remind yourself that it's only until the wedding
day.
2) Pamper
yourself regularly. Whether it be a relaxing bubble bath, a walk in the park,
or a cup of coffee at your favorite coffee house, don't assume that the
bride-to-be is the only one who deserves pampering and "me-time."
Sometimes the best defense is just to get away from it all for a while!
3) Stay
organized. Writing down things that need to be done is a great way to make
sure nothing gets overlooked or forgotten. Keep a small notebook (small enough
to fit into a pocket!) handy, and jot down things as they come to you. Make
sure to write in pencil, especially if you're working with a yo-yo bride!
Above all,
keep reminding yourself that it's only until the wedding. This, too, shall
pass. In the meantime, focus on having fun and enjoy planning for that big
day. If it makes you feel better, keep a private list called "Things I
will never do if I get married" and write down everything the bride does
that annoys you. Don't share this list with anyone; this is for private
venting only! And if a wedding of your own actually is in your future, it will
help you make things easier on members of your own wedding party.
