What is Your Dream of a Wedding?
By Ellen Russell
Nothing is out of bounds when it comes to planning your
dream wedding. From wedding favors to the final dance, choose a theme and plan
accordingly for a dream-day that is truly an expression of you as a couple.
Your dream wedding is whatever is important and
interesting to you. It doesn’t matter if everyone else is throwing a
Cinderella ball; if glass slippers make you cringe, a fairy-tell wedding is
not the way to go.
Dream weddings start with choosing a theme. Take a few
moments to brainstorm what interests you as a couple. Remember, this day is
about the two of you and your new life together. Strive for a theme that
involves both the bride and the groom, not just a girly party.
Ask yourself, what do we like to do? What are our
occupations? Are we collectors? Hobbyists? Animal lovers? Volunteers? Is
there something we are passionate about, like saving the earth or endangered
species?
Perhaps this is a second marriage, and children and
family are your number one priority. Celebrate your combined families and
ancestry.
Remember not every dream wedding is a formal affair. As
a couple, maybe casual rules your world and a country hoe-down, barbecue, or
sports rally is right for you. Have fun on the day of your dream wedding, the
way you do in your everyday life.
An important thing to keep in mind when choosing a dream
wedding theme is that not every guest needs to love your theme choice. Dream
weddings are highly personal expressions of the couple, and a way to
communicate your interests. No two-hundred people will ever agree on a
subject, but they will respect your choice and appreciate sharing your life and
your point of view.
As a final reminder, keep in mind that a small budget
doesn’t have to mean a day that isn’t special. The couple married quietly at
city hall is every bit as married as the couple married before four-hundred of
their closest “friends” and relatives. Choose the size and venue that suits
your personality and budget. Prioritize and maximize expenditures and above
all, feel comfortable throwing the dream wedding you can reasonably afford.
Your day and marriage will be more enjoyable and less stressful for it.
Take the opportunity to carefully plan a meaningful
wedding day. Give your guests the gift of getting to know a little more about
you by sharing this very important day, your personal expression of the perfect
dream wedding.
